A monumental exhibition and publication celebrating the donation of some 1,100 illustrated books and 100 other works related to the Russian avant-garde movement of the early 20th C. Five catalog essays. Exhibits presented in three main chronological sections, each with several sub-categories. Jewish artists (especially El Lissitzky) featured throughout. Jewish themes and artists discussed in “Vernacular Variations and Judaica, 1916–1923” (pp. 130–144). Lissitzky and Marc Chagall feature prominently in “Books for Children (1917–31)” (pp. 166–179).
