Virtual reconstructions of 16 German synagogues which, prior to their destruction, were integral parts of their cities’ urban landscape. Exhibition in three sections: 1. historical introduction to the process of discrimination and social ostracism of the Jews, which culminated in Kristallnacht, 2. photographic documentation of the synagogues’ destruction process, and 3. virtual tours inside the synagogue reconstructions. Catalog essays discuss Jewish religious architecture (Marc Grellert), German synagogues (Salomon Korn), and the use of modern technology to create virtual reconstructions (Marc Grellert, Manfred Koob). Synagogues presented according to city, with documentary photographs, virtual images, and historical descriptions. |
