Description |
The creation, fate, and rediscovery of an early-17th-C memor book thought to have been destroyed during Kristallnacht but discovered in 1998 by a second-hand book dealer in Fürth when cleaning the apartment of a couple who moved into a home for the elderly. The memor book had been brought to Fürth from Vienna in 1670, where it was preserved in the Klaus Synagogue and updated until 1932. The synagogue was destroyed on Kristallnacht in 1938. Three essays on: the memor book in general (Magnus Weinberg, originally published in 1926), memor books as milieux de memoire (Felicitas Heimann-Jelinek), and the Vienna Memorbuch of the Klaus-Synagogue (Bernhard Purin).
