The exhibition was designed in two parts, shown simultaneously in Amsterdam and Groningen (Israëls’ birthplace). The first part “Jozef Israëls: Zoon van het Oude Volk” [Jozef Israëls: Son of the Ancient People] was presented at the Joods Historisch Museum. One section of this exhibition was devoted to works by Israëls from collections in Israel, and discusses the artist’s reception by the Israeli audience. The second part “Jozef Israëls: Meester van het Sentiment” [“Jozef Israëls: Master of Feeling” was shown at Groninger Museum, Groningen (19 December 1999–5 March 2000). |
