Six in-depth essays cover the history of Court Jews (Yosef Kaplan), their involvement in economics and politics (Michael Graetz), their portrayal in Glückl von Hameln’s writings (Natalie Zemon Davis), and some outstanding figures: Alexander David of Braunschweig (Ralf Busch), Esther Liebmann (Deborah Hertz), and Mayer Amschel Rothschild and his sons (Fritz Backhaus). The final essay “Melding Worlds: Court Jews and the Arts of the Baroque” (Richard I. Cohen and Vivian B.
