The first public display of Georgian Jewish objects which were preserved in the Jewish Museum in Tbilisi between 1933–1951. These items were never displayed after the Museum was closed by the Soviet authorities. Catalog/book with introduction by Rachel Arbel and Lily Magal. Five in-depth historical essays, with most of the ceremonial objects and items of material culture featured in the section on “Tradition, Customs and Life Cycle” (Arbel and Magal). Other chapters address the land and the people (David M. Lang), Georgian Jewish history until the Communist period (Gershon Ben-Oren), Georgian Jews and Eretz Israel (Yitzhak David), and Georgian Jews during the Soviet regime (Lily Baazova).
