Manuscript treasures from various regions of the Iberian peninsula which reflect the “Sephardic” schools of illumination that flourished in Castile, Catalonia, Portugal and Provence from the 13th–15th C. Colorfully illustrated and finely calligraphed, these monuments of Jewish art show a combination of Eastern and Western influences, often unifying Muslim and Christian elements, gothic and arabesque. Brief introductory text to Hebrew book illumination in general, and in Spain and Portugal in particular. Basic listing. 18 items. |
