Description |
The 1987 conflict in Frankfurt am Main over how to handle the remains of the medieval Judengasse, significant portions of which had been discovered during the construction of a new municipal works building. Central essay by Dieter Bartetzko, “Damnatio memoriae—Der Börneplatz als Ort kollektiven Vergessen” [Damnatio memoriae—The Börneplatz as a Place of Collective Oblivion]. Numerous essays and photographs document the conflict, which was ultimately settled with the establishment of a Jewish Museum (Museum Judengasse), within the municipal works building, thus preserving the historic site.
