A traveling exhibition on the history of Yiddish theater, exploring, among other themes: its origin in late-19th-century Roumania, its importation to the United States by Eastern European Jews beginning in 1881, its Golden Age (especially on New York’s Lower East Side), its decline in the 1930’s–40’s, and the amateur and professional artists who performed on the Yiddish stage and screen in America. |
