A monumental exhibition on life and culture during the reign of the Hapsburg monarch Franz Joseph. Volume one with more than 60 essays examining the era’s political, religious, social, industrial and artistic facets. Two essays devoted to the Jewish population: “Die Juden” [The Jews] (Naama Magnus), and “Die Emanzipation der Juden” [The Emancipation of the Jews] (Nikolaus Vielmetti). Volume two presents a catalog of exhibits, including Jewish items related to marriage (pp. 22–24, cat. nos. 1.6.1–1.6.17; p. 48, cat. no. 3.36); food (pp. 24–26, cat. nos. 1.7.1–1.7.14); Jewish types (p. 27, cat. nos. 1.8.8–1.8.10); synagogue (p. 374, cat. no. 20.5.7); and ceremonial objects (pp. 377–379, cat. nos. 20.6.15–20.6.25).
