Description |
The German version of a catalog produced by the Jewish Museum of New York in 1980. These nearly-identical catalogs present the Danzig Treasures: a rich collection of personal and communal objects, emanating from Central and Eastern Europe, that were transferred from Danzig to the Jewish Theological Seminary of America for safekeeping during World War II. The catalog includes a preface about the exhibition and its origins (Joy Ungerleider-Mayerson), reflections on the Holocaust (Günter Grass), a short history of Danzig Jewry (Gerson C. Bacon), an essay on the Danzig Treasures (Joseph Gutmann), a biographical essay about the collector Lesser Gieldzinski (Elizabeth Cats), extensive entries for each exhibit (Vivian B. Mann and Joseph Gutmann), and a checklist of items not on exhibit. 134 items. |
