Description

Monumental exhibition on Jewish art. This catalog represents the beginning of a new era in German Judaica catalogs, and virtually in all printed, post-War Judaica catalogs. The full descriptions, bibliographical references and extensive texts, in addition to almost 200 images, laid the foundation for those exhibition catalogs that follow. Material presented in four sections: 1. Archaeology of the Bible, 2. Manuscripts, Printed Books and Tombstones, 3. Ritual Objects for the Synagogue and the Home, 4. Old Testament Themes and Scenes of Jewish Life in the Representational Arts. Each item fully described, with references to comparative material and bibliographical annotations. Prefatory texts about the exhibition by Thomas Grochowiak, Anneliese Schröder, and H.L.C. Jaffé. 644 items.
