- 1 IntroductionDace Balode is Professor of Biblical Studies at the University of Latvia in Riga. Her research interests relate both to the hermeneutics of the Holy Scriptures and to current developments in religion in Latvia, especially gender issues. His research interests are Muslim communities and the governance of Islam in Eastern Europe. Račius is the author of Islam in Post-Communist Eastern Europe: Between Churchification and Securitization (Leiden: Brill, 2020); and Muslims in Eastern Europe (Edinburgh: Edinburgh University Press, 2018).
