Abstract: The concept of attitude has been central to social science research over the past century, because so much of our social contacts, relations, and ideas have to do with evaluations, whether positive or negative, and evaluative reactions to our environment often precede any instrumental reactions. This concept has played a role in research on religion, and has been used in two different ways. In the first case, religions or religious beliefs have been treated as objects to be evaluated, and the effects of social and individual factors in such evaluations have been examined. In the second case, research has looked at the correlations between religiosity and positions on a variety of social and political issues. ⸙
