Abstract: God’s intervention within the world may also take place by means of intermediary spirits between heaven and earth, playing an auxilary and supporting role to his will. They are ancillary entities, serving as a celestial army with a marked warlike character, and especially during eschatological and apocalyptical events. Their nature as heavenly intelligences enables the realization of spiritual achievements in the course of ritual performances, meditations, ecstatic and mystical experiences, and esoteric or magical uses of creative imagination as well. Some irrational and spiritualistic applications of angelology have occured, as in contemporary fashions of magic and religious syncretisms, in addition to more refined intellectual and philosophical speculations, particularly in literature and the arts. ⸙
