ABSTRACTIn his course devoted to the Common Law approach of mandatory rules, Trevor C. Hartley, Professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science, gives several definitions of the concept of mandatory rules. He next discussed different theories that deal specifically with these rules. The author then focuses on the Rome convention and the American restatement, negatively mandatory rules, the illegality question and business relation and consumer protection. Lastly he looks at employment contracts and exchange controls.

Hartley, professeur à la London School of Economics and Political Science, donne plusieurs définitions des lois de police (mandatory rules). Il présente ensuite différentes théories relatives à ces règles. Le Professeur Hartley s’intéresse ensuite à la Convention de Rome et au Restatement américain, aux negatively mandatory rules, à la question de l’illégalité, à la régulation des affaires et à la protection du consommateur. Il étudie enfin les contrats de travail et le contrôle des échanges.
