ABSTRACTR. Y. Jennings selects, for his Course on Public International Law, certain aspects of contemporary law (in 1967) that seems to be most interesting to him. The author says that the list of subjects may seem old-fashioned, but it is intentional: continuity is the essence of the law, and the novelty appears only from what is old. He incorporates his course within the framework of the classical scheme of private international law and examines the following themes: the people, the recognition, the territory, the responsibility of the State, the succession of States, the force and the threat of the use of force, intervention, and civil war.
