ABSTRACTAccording to Sidney Z. Ehler, a concordat is an international agreement between the Pope and a State relating to the legal situation of the Catholic Church of that state. The author begins his study with a presentation of the two parties to the concordat: the Pope and the State. He next examines the characteristics of the concordat as an international agreement, later examines the characteristics of the concordat as an international agreement sui generis, and finally focuses on the law of recent concordats.
Selon Sidney Z. Ehler, un concordat est un accord international entre le Pape et un Etat relatif à la situation juridique de l'Eglise catholique dans cet Etat. L'auteur commence son étude par une présentation des deux parties au concordat : le Pape et l'Etat. Il étudie ensuite les caractéristiques du concordat en tant qu'accord international, puis en tant qu'accord international sui generis, et s'intéresse enfin au droit des concordats récents.
