ABSTRACTP. E. Corbett emphasizes in the introduction to his course on the Social Basis of a Law of Nations, we are struck by the extreme rarity of consideration of fixed and precise ones when we examine in detail the mass of materials classified on behalf of international law. The author argues that this lack of precision is certainly inherent in the particular nature of the subject to which international law is intended to apply, which distinguish it from domestic law. The author suggests that these differences between public international law and domestic law have not been sufficiently taken into account in the literature on public international law. He aims to remedy this situation in his course.

Lorsque l'on examine en détail la masse de matériaux que l'on classe sous le nom de droit international, on est frappé par l'extrême rareté de ce qui est fixe et précis, souligne P.E. Corbett en introduction de son cours sur les bases sociales du droit des gens. Cette absence de précision, poursuit l'auteur, est certainement inhérente à un caractère propre de la matière à laquelle le droit international est sensé s'appliquer et qui distingue celle-ci du droit interne. L'auteur suggère qu'il n’a pas été suffisamment tenu compte, dans la littérature de droit international public, de ces différences entre droit international public et droit interne. Il entend remédier à cette situation dans son cours.
