The article gives an account of the Russian intonation units, the ways of their alignment with texts, and the meanings expressed by intonation. The approaches to the description of Russian intonation proposed in the literature are briefly outlined. The discussion of Russian intonation is illustrated throughout by examples and their frequency tracings.
