Johann Albrecht Widmanstetter (1506–57) was a diplomat, a Hebraist, and a bibliophile, known for his expertise in oriental studies and his large collection of manuscripts. He published in 1543 The Theology of Muḥammad, which contains a Latin translation of the Masāʾil ʿAbdallāh b. Salām, a Latin summary of the Qurʾān, and in 1555 the Editio Princeps of the Syriac New Testament (Wilkinson, 171–88). He died on 28 March 1557 in Regensburg.
