, the name of several places in ʿIrāḳ and al-D̲j̲azīra. The Mus̲h̲tarik of Yāḳūt (337) lists five places of that name of which the two most important were situated near Sāmarrā and al-Kūfa. The history of these places is most difficult to trace.
